Sustainable business in the construction industry is possible. With its ingenious grid, Staenis found a solution to achieve professional floor construction even without experience. In addition, founders Tom Verstaen and Daisy Bohyn are working on an innovation project with alternative fillers.
73 investors together provided €150,000 to help make this happen.
Constructing a solid screed -the screed between the concrete and the floor finish- yourself is not rocket science. Self-placement gives you planning flexibility and the ability to install lightweight, insulating, dry or water-permeable floor structures yourself in addition to screed using Staenis’ grid.
More than 2,000 do-it-yourselfers have already put their trust in the company from Zulte. Tom Verstaen and Daisy Bohyn have further plans for growth and came to WinWinner.
Confirmation with the public as leverage
“When we looked at the alternatives to grants, we included crowdfunding in our funding mix,” Daisy says. “The goal? Raise public funding first, then go to the bank, Vlaio and PMV with a more solid case. Confirmation from the general public makes it easier to tap into other funding channels as well.”
That confirmation certainly came. Staenis convinced 73 investors to grant a subordinated loan to her company.
“For us, it was a nice to see that we can count quite a few customers among our investors,” adds Tom. “This really gave us a boost: not only were they already using our product, they were now putting in a penny.”
